Small update(I feel like im taking over this place with all my posts on everything, sorry) Pulled the heads off the motor so Patrick can give em some love with a fluff n buff and port match the new intakes for the dual carbs. I will also be cleaning up the pushrod tubes and everything else on it. I am doing my best to stay on one thing at a time so I do not loose track of what Im doing. Hopefully I can get the motor cleaned, put back together and ready to rock and then set it aside while I move onto other things. I will be dropping one of my 15x10 wheels and one 31/10.50/15 tire off at lunch today to have them swapped to see how bad they look. I think the tire is going to be to narrow for the wheel but for 10.00 I want to try it. I e mailed a guy in cali about a jet of jackmans he has and hopong to hear back on how much shipping is going to kill me on em. I am still considering painting the whole stupid frame but not sure I want to go through all the work to clean and paint it. Oh well, motor comes first! I got a nice aluminum pulley at the bug run so I can actually see what I am setting the timing at now. I didnt trust my measurments on the stock one. I also picked up 4 nice offroad lights that I will have to biuld some sort of lightbar for. More lights were my wifes one request with this build. So shes happy about that and thats a good thing!

It doesn't look as bad as I thought! Dave, they have a cone big enough to balance these wheels if you were wondering

Ok tire on the south side of Holland. State street I believe. They dont have the actual adapter but they have a regular cone that fit mine. I didn't have them balance this one because im gonna paint the wheels later but they can do it

I will be doing some cleaning tonight on the heads and p&c's. I would like to clean the eveything before I put it back together. My question is this, can I just use some carb clean and a soft wire brush on the piston tops to clean them up? Should I hone the cyliders or anything before I put it back together? I figure I might as well get things super clean since its apart anyway. Should I paint the cylinders with flat black paint?

If I were going to paint the cylinders, I would use VHT flat or satin black motorcycle barrel paint. It's about $13 a can, but it is thin, which helps prevent heat buildup from the paint.
You can get it at Summit Racing.
It dries hard, and when you run it the first time, it will cure very hard.

I will look for that. I just want the engine area to look halfway nice since its exposed all the time.

Cleaned up the heads tonight. Started cleaning the pistons up as well. Everything looks really good inside the motor. Cant wait to get it put back together! Im going to attempt painting the tins at some point soon. Just need to figure out what color I want to go with. Cant make up my mind on that (im very indecisive if ya'll haven't noticed).

I would use something more mild like scotch-brite on the cylinder tops.
As for the cylinders, I would ask Holland Automotive Machine to deglaze them on there machine. Bottle brushes or 3 stone hones don't really care if your cylinders are round of not. They just follow the existing sidewall profile. That is just my opinion though. A lot of people have good luck with bottle brushes on cylinders with very little wear on them.

The cylinders have very little wear on them. I could probably just put em in and run em and be ok but not sure. Will a brass wire brush be ok on the pistons? A friend told me to try purple power or krud kutter on them.

FYI, I had pretty good luck with VHT's rattle can engine enamel. If you follow the directions it gives you a pretty solid finish as far as rattle cans go. They claim that after baking it becomes chemically resistant. Just for fun I wiped a section I had painted and cured with an acetone soaked rag to test their claim and the paint didn't come off on the rag. Makes for a pretty hard finish as well.

That brush would be ok as long as you take it lightly.

I think the VHT is what im going to go with on it. Ive had good luck with it in the past. Pistons are quite clean to begin with just full of carbon from that 34 running so rich on it. I did one with a brush and carb clean and it worked well
