Is that a pair of old Gates Commando tires I spy trying to hide in the cylinder heads?
Mike, 14in or 15in smoothies? I might be in the market for a pair or 15in smoothies, 4 or 4.5 inches wide.

Those tires are about as original off road VW as you can get. I wish Cooper would make a larger size of the Micky Thompson Mini Mag for six inch wide rims that would stand about 29-30 inches tall. It can't to to hard to scale up what they already have. That commando look is fantastic. Unfortunately, the Baja Pro is all we have these days for taller rear tires.
Mike, how tough of shape are the rims in? I don't mind the rust if they are still solid.

Dang. Sounds cool. The commandos are still in good shape after 40 years?

they do have cracks on the sidewalls , Not enuff to leak or the tubes to bust out will be ok for a lite buggy, but I don't think I'd put them on the back of a pick-up and haul 2 cords of wood
