Whats the point of them? My rims have the cone for the nuts to seat into. Just seems like they wouldn't be able to center properly with the washer things on.

Correct, they are for flat aluminum rims without the cone.

Dave is a hundred percent correct...those are for aluminum rims with "universal" mounting holes. They are usually obround, and you put the "washers" in a specific way, and holes all for a particular radius.
Today they use press-in parts, but they are much the same thing. In my opinion, these wheels are worth less than a warm glass of spit, because if they loosen up, lots of bad things happen.
Since your car is a sand rail, you shouldn't be using those anyway, and since you are using steel wheels, it's a moot point.

Thats what I figured, so I took em off. Still need to find someone who can balance these wide fives though.

I'm not sure if you're talking about the same thing, but sometimes they can be used to correct the lugnut seat angle too. For example, most domestic wheels use a 45 degree seat on lug nuts, VW's are a 60 degree. If you have VW rims and use press-in studs instead of lugbolts and you can't find any 60 degree seat bulge nuts, the cones are used under the more common 45 degree nuts to make the seat correct. I recently picked some of these up at the suggestion of Appletree when I bought some screw-in studs for my rear wheels. I'm not certain who makes my wheels but I'm guessing they are aluminum centerlines with 45 degree seats. The VW lug bolts I'm using atm don't look like they seat correctly so I can only guess they don't match and I won't need the cone washer (adapters) since all I can find at the stores are 45s anyway.

Balancing wide 5's are EASY Have the tire store install 2oz per tire of the 'Balance Beads' used on big rig tires ,no shake in my bus at all (only some nights when parked)

I have/make a balance adapter to static or spin balance 5 bolt VW rims, I use to use a shop 25 plus years ago that had an on the car balancer that worked great, but they are long gone so I made an adapter, have used it to both static and dynamic balance, works well. PM me for more info I can make for you if you need/want, or possible loan you mine. RWK

Thanks! I stopped by the tire place I use and the guy said he thought they had an adapter in the back covered in dust! If they do not in fact have one when I go to get my tires done I will contact you about getting an adapter from you.

Is it as hard to get 4 bolters balanced? I got a front end wobble that's down right frustrating and I'm starting to think it's a balance issue because it gets worse with speed.

To my knowlage it shouldnt be hard for the 4 bolt. The wide five are a PITA due to the massive center hole in the wheel.

Sounds like a steering stabilizer to me...
