With this new 1679 I want to make sure that I can keep an eye on the oil temp and oil pressure. Can I just put a tee in where my pressure gauge is and run them both off the same spot?

I don't like that idea personally. I think it is too much weight on that case port. Especially on a sand rail that will probably see some rough use. I like the temp sensor that goes in the oil pressure relief port on the bottom of the engine. Then use the pressure sending unit that has two poles. One for the gauge and one for the idiot light.

These are the VDO part numbers for gauges and sending units I have on my drag car. I found the best price at Jegs, plus free shipping. 310-012 323-064 350-040 360-006 310-901

I will look for the oil port on the bottom of the engine. There is a spot in the drivers side front of the pan that someone had something in at some point(its plugged now). I was thinking i could put it there but im not sure I like it mounted that low. I will look tonight. What is a "comfortable" oil temp for it to run? Thanks for the part numbers I will check tem out today. I might just use the gauges that are in it for now and look at better ones this winter when I re do everything.

I agree with Brenn but for different reason, not enough oil flows pass that port to be accurate Remove the oil relief plug(Big headed screw)near the pully and install sender VDO#323064 Don't freakout when temps take a Loooooog time to register, takes 5+miles 180-220 are the norm,,, 240-250 hot oil pressure should be 10lbs for every 1000rpm warm

Thanks! I will look for that plug when I get home tonight. Thanks for the oil temp info too. If it gets up to around 240 should I pull over and shut it down to cool off? No idea what this thing does yet as I just got it back in.

I prefer sensing oil temp from the sump. This is the most accurate for a true "static" oil temp. Any place else in the system will give varying readings depending on where it is placed. I use my T3 dipstick block off for mine. I usually see between 210* and 220* might hit 225* on a long uphill.

Im gonna look at the bung in the side of the pan and see if I can put some protection around it

Mike, your list of ideal oil temps, they are for oil that has already passed through the oil cooler, yes? What oil temps would you expect to be in the sump, fresh off the bearings and what not?
