I have just tried VHT's High Temperature Barrel Paint, and I am impressed. I used the paint on my new CB drop spindles, and wanted a thin black paint that was satin (not flat).
Powder coating is too thick, and the standard semi-gloss paints I have used in the past, (Krylon, SEM) have been too soft, and too thick. This seems just right.
The paint requires heat to cure, so I'll bake them tomorrow and see what happens. I don't like to use flat paint on suspension parts, because you can't clean it, and most flat paints are thin enough, but scrape off way to easily.
Barrel paint is used to paint motorcycle cylinder barrels, and needs to cover, but not be too thick, or the cylinders will overheat. (Exactly what I want!)
If this works well on this, I have an 010 dizzy that is crying out for satin paint...
The paint is expensive, at $14 or so a can from Summit Racing, but it is comparable to SEM paint, although you get a bit less.

I have heat treated soaked the paint, and I am pretty impressed. I let it dry overnight, and this morning I baked it for several hours at 250 degrees. In the afternoon, I raised it to 400 degrees for an hour, and then to 450 degrees for an hour. I turned the oven off, and let them cooled naturally.
It's thing, it's satin, and it's black. I baked a couple of pieces of paint on 1/2" mild steel, and then banged them together to test the paint. It's not powder coating, but it did not flake off. I'm sold.

Hi Dave, Thanks for the info. Haven't used this type of paint, but will try it. Another one I'd like to try is Epoxy Appliance paint. Many claim it holds up to chipping.

It's good stuff. Thin, good coverage, cures very hard.
The next step is my 010 distributor.
