Hello everyone! I just recently got my 98 new beetle 5 speed so I am new to the volkswagen scene, I've been modding cars for several years, just not volkswagens. My last car was a built Honda Civic that ran 13.9s with a NA 1.8L so I am excited for the potential of my slightly larger bore 2."Slow". My Girlfriend also has a 2000 New beetle with the 1.8 which is actually why I bought my beetle. I'm happy I finally found a volkswagen forum based in Michigan. We would like to get in on some of the gtgs or cruises if that's cool with you guys and get into the vw scene around here. I see this forum is mostly geared towards air cooled vws but I hope you guys are accepting of our water cooled bugs too! Thanks for reading and feel free to drop a line (:

I spent a couple days in Bay city with my sister back in the summer. She is an ecologist and I helped her out with Phd research. We took soil core samples from floodplains to analyze the acidity of the soil as well as other chemicals. Spent a lot of time surveying the floodplains, setting up plots, and then took inventory of what plants grew in the plots. We had to count every single plat. Lots of work, but it was fun. I found out the hard way not to touch the Stinging Nettles. They have very fine hair like protrusions on their stems that are very acidic. When they touch your skin, the acid burns like crazy for several minutes. It literally felt like there was a fire on my hand that I could not extinguish, and there is nothing that you can do to cool off your hand. You just have to wait it out until the acid stops burning. Hahaha. Good memories!
