We are currently looking for help with my torsion bars on my 1974 Volkswagen convertible that my dad took a part and now we can't get it back together! If you have any suggestions or know someone that will be willing to help. I would greatly appreciate it! Thank You!!

The rear torsion bars are marked "L" and "R" on the outer ends. They have to go back in the same place they came from and the splines are different on the inside and the outside. If they were not marked before removal, you will have a lot of trial and error to get them adjusted properly. Hope this helps.

Once the bars are installed and spring plate is ready to load. Use a floor jack and a short chain. Rap the chain up and over the shock tower then fasen it to the floor jack. This will allow you to be able to lift the spring plate without lifting the car. Once the spring plate has cleared the lip of the tortion housing you should be able to lightly tap it into place. Once it's in place you can carefully release the floor jack and move on to the other side.

It took me two tries to get mine right, even with the angle gage.

Just got home from Mattawan. I'm hoping we solved the problem. We got both spring plates hanging at the same angle, then re-installed everything. After puting the tires on and getting it off the jack stands, it sits level! A big thanks to Brian for coming out to help!
