hello everyone
I have a 1600 case that needs to be cleaned so the I can start putting her back together... but wanted to know what you guys have had success with or does anyone know where I can have it dipped and cleaned with acid (or if that's even an option)... and if I put the case back together and cover all to openings if it would just be a better idea to sand blast it.
Also I know that there are many oil passages inside of the case... what is the best way to clean them?
Thanks a bunch and have a great day
Jason

I would not sand blast it, to many nooks and cranny's and oil galleys for sand to get caught in. Jim Green has a hot power washer, kind of like a giant dish washer. I just use my parts washer and then blow everything out with compressed air. If the case is real dirty you could have all the oil galley plugs removed then tapped for plugs. This would allow you to get at the oil galleys a little better and run a brush in and out of the larger galley.

I think I will call Jim to see what he charges for a wash. Jason I use mineral spirits(paint thinner).

I used simple green and power washed it. then coated it with wd40 till I started to build it. Right before assy I brake cleaned it and that was that. Another time I had one that was a short block and was filthy. Since the owner did not want me to break into the short block I cleaned it as best I could with trans fluid and brake clean. It turned out well as well.

Make sure you blow compressed air back thru #4 main bearing oil galley hole (pully end) where the bearing sets, there is a restrictor in the oil galley and it collects junk, normally removed when you drill and tap, after you think its clean, spray carb cleaner in the galley hole and let it set then dump it out or blow thru.
