Hello Volks volk. Signed up to ask a question. Does anyone know a reliable shop or mechanic in southeastern Oakland County, southwestern Macomb Country or northern Wayne that still works on air-cooled VWs? Not talking custom or restoration--just basic stuff like setting valves, doing brakes or replacing starters. The place I used to visit--Auto Haus in Warren__is no longer operating.
Reasonably close proximity is an issue. I see a place called Don's Sport Vehicles mentioned in one of the threads, on Six Mile in Detroit, but I can't seem to locate it.
Appreciate the opportunity to ask.

Don's in Detroit has closed...but is still selling parts in Perry. It's a large outfit.

JP: I am sure there are some places that still work on them over there. Parts Place in Auburn Hills might be a place to call. However, I have never been impressed with their attitude. Munks Motors is another place to try. www.munks.com/ They are in Waterford Twp. Went there for a swap meet. They seem nice and really into aircooled. I used to go by Auto Haus all the time growing up. Cool little building on a funky corner. Was a neat hardware store in the same building; can't remember the name. Most of us are on the west side of the state so might not be ton's of help. You could also try contacting the MVVC. Most of them are on your side of the state. www.mvvc.net/. I think they are more active on facebook than their forum. Hope this helps.

Thank you kindly, gentlemen,
I've heard similar grumbling about the Parts Place before. None of it makes me eager to deal with them. As for Auto Haus and the hardware store--don't know precisely when it happened, but both are now a store dedicated to home brewing beer. They might even brew some of their own in the old garage bays, because there were a couple of large vats in the garage bays when I checked it out.
Appreciate the counsel,
