RV awning install

Hoping some of you fellow handy folk have experience installing an awning or two...
So I have a Carefree awning to install on my motorhome soon and I'm reading the destructions and I don't understand why they instist on mounting the fabric rail to the rig first then using three people to man handle the whole assembly and guide the fabric through the rail.
Am I crazy for thinking I could mount the whole ball of wax first then get up top and thread the fabric through the rail, screw it in next to the roller assembly on the roof, pop the pins out of the roller springs and wahlah, done!?
