I'm picking this up tonight. Don't worry I still have my 3 buses and 1 bug. Edit: I'll be giving it to my mom, no flipping it. She always wanted to buy the bug from her uncle in the past, but he sold it to her cousin instead who then destroyed it. Attachments:

Wow, that is some crazy patina!
Is it solid?

So the worst part is the paint and the bottom plate of the heater channels. The doors open and shut alright, but in a few years it'll need them. The owner before the lady I got it from attacked it with sandpaper or something in addition to it sitting outside in the sun forever. There are tiny hail dings and some filler in spots. It's also dirty as can be, as it was sitting since August in a garage.
3 new tires by the PO, 1 by me on a smoothie I bought from the Air Cooled Express shop in Omaha H case 1500sp runs but the carb was toast Brakes are all supposedly brand new with receipt but I doubt it since the reservoir was empty (done by a shady shop in South Omaha) Electrical works minus the wipers being really slow Door windows are iffy for up and down Titled in NE, so need to take care of making it OH heater channels ok for now, but show some age
I need to get a lot of the paint fixed so photos can be submitted for insurance.
It has tags from last fall, so the lady probably isn't lying about driving it up until August when her son passed away.
I'll probably flip it or give it to my mom after she heals from the hip replacement surgery she had last week.
Photos/vids are uploading from my phone to photobucket, so links will be posted in a little while.

Looks generally solid. Give it a respray and some little bits (running boards and such) and she is ready for the show. Interior looks great!

Nice. '67s are the best. Actually, a '67 body on a '69 pan would be even better (IRS).

Thanks. Just waiting on plates so I can drive it. Then maybe I'll get ambitious and replace the windshield myself. Even if I break one, I'm still ahead of the game. A big box glass store wants $190 with my work discount to put a windshield in, but they can replace the chrome trim with black trim. I almost laughed myself to death. I think the quote I got was $150 for it done by a VW club person here with a glass shop.
So I bought the non chrome seal and new glass for $80 and will do it myself when it's not raining cats and dogs.

Rubber set windshields are pretty easy. I've done them by myself, but, it's easier with an extra set of hands. I use K-Y jelly (yup) and a length of 3/16" nylon rope. I try not to buy my supplies at the same store, looks suspiscious! I like to let the gasket warm in the sun for a bit while I'm getting everything else ready. I install the gasket on to the glass, then, wrap the length of rope around the gasket, pushing the rope down into the channel. I like to overlap my ends a few feet. Lube the gasket liberally with the K- Y, then place the bottom of the window onto the bottom of the opening ensuring that the channel is seated on the pinch weld. From inside the car, slowly pull the rope while your helper applies light pressure from outside. You will be able to watch the gasket pull over the pinch weld as you pull the rope. Keep working your way around until the entire gasket is in place. If you need help, let me know, I've done a few....

Thanks! Would soapy water or windex work in place of the lube? How many feet of rope do you think you have in total? I've read the braided stuff isn't the best on thesamba, but the reasoning wasn't very clear to me. Maybe even speaker wire with the plastic coating?
Nobody I know out here at work/school would be able to figure out the whole push lightly on the outside of the windshield part of the process. I won't get to doing this until after the Omaha club show on Saturday (my plates SHOULD arrive Friday in the mail.)
I have to trouble shoot the wiper motor. I'm hoping it's a bad connection or something is dirty. The arms go up an inch or so then it seems like something binds. The cracked glass in it now will be coated with Rainex liberally to make sure I don't have any issues if it rains Saturday.

Windex is too thin. Dish soap works, but, believe it or not, can be harmful to paint. K-Y is water based, rinses away nicely with straight water. I've done plenty and K-Y gives the best results. I have used a coated cable in place if the rope but, it tends to catch the rubber so you have to be careful not to tear the seal. I've used braided rope without problems. The biggest issue is getting the seal over the pinchweld without tearing it. The corners on a Bug can be tricky, Ghia's are easier. I wrap the rope around the windshield and overlap the ends on the bottom, all the way past the bottom corners. If you are getting stuck on one end of the rope, move to the other end for a little bit. I usually apply a little downward pressure along with the inward pressure to get everything to seat well. Good luck!

Cool. KY and 3/16" rope it is! I'll be doing this probably Sunday or next week. The star crack won't interfere with my driving it (on passenger side) to the show Saturday morning with my temp paper plates. My folks scanned them and sent them to me in case the YOMs don't make it.

The regular vehicle went to the Omaha show due to no wipers and fuel issues. It was really really rainy Saturday. I bought the 3/16 rope and KY at different stores as you suggested. The weather has been hot as heck here, perfect to install a window to warm the seal in the sun, but I've been at work late most nights. I've also been sorting out drive-ability issues with tank sediment (clearing them up with multiple filters) that left me stranded for a bit at a Father's Day car show 10 blocks from home. So after cleaning the carb, fuel pump, etc maybe I can drive it tomorrow evening. It hasn't wanted to leave this spot in my building parking lot since Sunday afternoon.
