I don't think VW ever intended for this to be removed.. Well, I decided before winter, that I wasn't going to be able to use the Karman body for the wife's roadster project. The sedan body I got is in much better condition. So, we recently started cutting out all the "Karman Convertible" exclusive stuff to graft into the sedan body. The windshield frame wasn't too bad. Some of the door pillar stuff wasn't too bad. But, getting the body off the old eat up and locked up chassis was a bear and a half. Got it off, so I can get underneith the body and cut the convertible support structure out to graft into the sedan body (since I have the roof cut off it, and it will now be the basis of the roadster). Man, I don't think VW ever intended that support structure to ever be removed, lol.. We are having to cut away the useless body pieces a little at a time. It's like an archaological dig, trying to free that structure to give it it's new home. Beleive it or not, as bad as the body was with rust, that structure I need is about 90% intact, and solid. Only a small part of it will need to be built back. But it survived this Karman's 12 year hiatus in a mid western feild. We finally got the body off the rusted solid chassis, and just plopped it on our good roller so we can flip it all around as we cut the rest of the horrible body away to free the structure from it's prison. Some cool photos, and boy can you learn the may unseen places, and cavitites hidden in these things when you disect them piece by piece.. Kinda cool reallly.
I promise. The roaster will look alot better further along in the build. We are in the tear down of needed parts at the moment.
