Interesting day today.
As some of you might have heard, I've written software to help categorize breeding bulls...
I'm just finishing up the instructions for the iPad, which has a built-in camera.
To illustrate how to use it, I actually had to go out and take a few photos with my software. That meant that I had to go to a working ranch, and take a picture of a breeding bull.
Well, this should be fun...
iPads have wide-angle lenses. What that means is something like "object in the rear-view mirror are closer that they appear..."
What it REALLY means is that "you will be WAY closer than you want to be to your subject..."
Good God! This bull is HUGE!
His name is...wait for it...wait for it...wait for it...NITRO!
Bigger than a VW Bug.
Probably could EAT a VW Bug.
Turns out this bull is a national champion, and seemed perfectly content to eat hay. Could have ben a dead body for all I know...I know he was pretty "frisky" when he came out, which worried me a little bit, being in harm way here...
Did I mention that these things are really FAST too?
Ol' Nitro here didn't seem to be too happy to be out of his nice, warm pen. He sort of spun around a couple of time which is how I found out he was FAST.
Big.
Fast.
Unhappy.
Not a good combination in my opinion.
The breeder sort of pointed him to this feed stall, and suddenly he was happy as a clam.
I decided that I would get the best shot I could, and then get out of there. Didn't look like that much hay...
Pretty certain I did not want to be around when he ran out!
Dave Riedle
P.S. Glad I had on rubber boot. The yard was full of mud, water, and, well, you know...
