My son is in the market for cheap (probably $500 or less) transportation. His S10 has lost 5th gear and is not worth fixing. If anyone has something or knows of something please let me know.
Thanks, Bren

Either have him or you check with Auto-Zone on Stadium Drive in Kalamazoo they have or had some affordables last time I knew. Later Kenn

Bren, Has Sean found anything yet? I stopped and looked at a GMC Jimmy today, just to find out it has engine issues, all I saw at first was the sign that said $500./ or best, then realized it was printed "Needs Engine Work" Later Kenn

Dave, thanks for the Rodeo info but that is more work than we are prepared to do.
Yes, he is still looking. Going to go look at one Wed with him. I think it is a grand am.
Thanks Dustin. I sent him the link. I think run it as is. No one would steal it!

OE VW Clutch kits for a 2.0L are about $150 and not too bad to change. That would be a really good car that will last a very long time. Depending on what condition the body is in its probably a good deal.

The Neon's are good on gas but part Mitsubishi. My brother had one and he kept chasing electrical issues like coils, crank and cam sensors, and fuel pump. Import parts cost coin.
Clutch of a front wheel drive can be done in about one full day. You need to make a jig to support engine weight after trans is removed. It is a VW but a watercooled. Good way to pull the kids into the way of the VW
The Pontiac wow good clean body. Winter car? I think not. May need a quick tune up and carb rebuild. Would make a better summer cruiser but it does have a thirsty V8.
The Grand am may be the way to go the body does not look that bad. It is manufactured before the OBD II codes. So it is simple to check codes. The plus is that you can go to any parts store to purchase parts.
If it runs, drives, start easy, has 4 tires and the engine runs with out clicking. Makes a good cheep car.

Seans current truck is not that good. Not worth putting money into. Now, if we could find another one just like it we would keep it for parts.
Thanks for the input AJ. Why not a good winter car for the Pontiac, is it the RWD? Would you go for the grand am before the jetta? Want to go look at the grand am with us tomorrow?

The old Pontiac looks to nice to use in winter thats all. The RWD just add bonus fun time in the snow.

That doesn't look like a bad deal at all.
