If you want an older car just change out the parts to make it look older. You can buy fenders, aprins, etc. to make it look that way. From what I have seen, the german look cars are usually the later body style anyhow. The cal-look cars are older. German look cars are usually porshe powered, 4 wheel disk brakes, wide tires for handling. Cal look cars have the pizza cutters up front, wide tires in back, and IDA webers. Basically street driven 1/4 mile cars. I myself would keep the '68. Slowly change what you want, and keep the factory things. Just incase you change your mind. Beside, you have half of either way you decide. The '68 has a ball-joint front, and a swing axle rear. Sounds like a good start either way.

I think most people build their German Look cars off of Super Beetles. I believe that the strut front end is more stable and tunable when it comes to cornering.

While alot of them are Superbeetles there are many standard Beetles of all years used and some go so far as to change the front ends over to a strut type coilover system with a-arms. Theres really no rules to it and they look awesome no matter what year/type.

It will be easier to make torsion bars handle than the struts. Most supers are over suspended. Im not a fan. Make the car what you want it to look like not what you feel others feel it should look like just so it fits into a catagory. Take what you like and build it in. Screw what anyone else thinks it what you like that counts. If you REALLY want a super get one they are pretty cheap. Im more of an original fan but thats just me.

Hey guys, I am still strugling with this topic. Things are getting harder at work. I have lost 20% of my hours, and I have a wedding and honeymoon to pay for. Any way around selling the bug would be great, but it might have to happen this year

Hard to know what is best for you obviously. I would be inclined to wait a little and see how things play out at work. Seems like there maybe a voluntary staff reduction going on, if you know what I mean.
