Hello everyone! My name is Brian Falther, I've recently relocated to Holland, Michigan and I have a '64 metal sunroof. I found you guys while attempting to locate a local aircooled shop - I'm hoping to find someone who would be able to do some engine and transmission work for me. I'm in the process of relocating my vehicle from my parent's house in Ohio and I'm planning to have it out here by the end of October. About 4 years ago, I blew a valve guide in one of my heads and haven't been able to drive the bug since (didn't have time to rebuild with college and full-time jobs getting in the way). I've finally settled and have a place to work on it and I'd like to reach out and connect with the local community. I'd love to hang out, grab a beer and check out any of the local cars in the area and I can't wait to get mine out here and get her up and running again, it's been too long. I've attached a link for an album with some pictures; it's had many different stances and engines Most of the pictures are from when I was in high school around 2002-2005. If you have any questions, feel free to ask and I look forward to meeting you guys! photobucket.com/da64bug

Welcome to the site. I also once had a 64 sunroof. It was black with a red interior like Max. Very cool. Engine sounds like an easy head swap repair.

Thanks everyone! Dustin and vw1s, would love to meet up - let me know if you ever want to catch a drink after work or on the weekends.
Anyone know who drives a 70's yellow bug with a stinger, decklid stand-offs, and t-bars? I saw it in Holland yesterday at the corner of waverly and chicago while I was enjoying some ice cream.

Hi Brian,
Good time to join, the fall tour is coming up October 13th, I believe, on the west side of the state. In addition to this site, Yahoo has some groups related to VW's which you might use as a resource, also TheSamba.Com has cars, parts, and tech that you might find useful. I have a 73 Karmann Ghia now, I used to have a 71 Super Beetle with a sun roof back in 1975.

haha, Well it sounds great Dustin
Lynn, I'd love to check out the tour.
Thanks Brian!
I added a few pictures of the current state of the engine. Both heads are cracked and need to be welded/machined - cracked/shattered and dislodged [exhaust] valve guide on #4 cyl. Figured it out when my turbo stopped spooling because of the wedged brass in the fins... doh! -_-
