My 15 year old daughter choosing a 69 Beetle as her first car, also being an aspiring gear head/vedubber has and continues to be in training. I am proud of her can actually work on, and problems solve on her own dubb. I tested that a week or so ago. As I mentioned in an earlier thread, I took her out driving and she experienced a real world breakdown. Bug stopped, she jumped out, tinkered around for about a minute, jumped back in and started her up. Wire feeding the distributor fell off the coil. 15, and knew exactly where and what to look for. Anyway, My next test for her as I teach her things, is a total rebuild of a VW 1600. I am wondering if there might be anybody out there that has a core laying around that she can take apart, learn on it, and ultimately ending up building back into a running 1600dp, learning each part and their function along the way. The issue is, being disabled on a fixed income, I am wealthy in happiness, but poor in monetary wealth (who could ask for more than that?). Would there be anyone near lower Michigan that might have an old core laying around in the way? If you are tired of stumping your toes on it every time you try to get to your tool cabinet, and might consider donating it for advanced learning of a new generation of VeDubber, I would be interested in getting it out of your way to teach the daughter on. I would prefer a 1600dp, but beggers can't be choosers. I just want to find something she can dissasemble, catalog parts, and re-assemble into a running engine. I think she would be proud, as I would of her, and how many 15 year old girls can brag that they built their first engine?
