:)John..Please post photos thru out the project. That will look great when you have it done. Also I like how you and your father are doing it together. Hopefully someday I will work on one with my son or daughter. Oh...If you need help putting a engine back in let me know. I am a pro at it. I have done 1 or 2 in my time. Ok...maybe just one. ;D

Ok, now I posted. I have had the 52 zwitter since 2003. It has been tucked away in a barn until the time was right to restore it. I bought it from a guy in Battle Creek who rescued it from a junk yard in 1974 in Southern Indiana. He had the car in his barn from 74 to 03 when I got it. When I bought it , the hood, decklid and engine were missing. The rest of the car was pretty much there. I have been accumulating parts for it along the way but there are still a few odds and ends that I need. We have not picked a color yet but George at Georges Hot VW's in Battle Creek is doing the body and paint work. My dad and I will put everything back together and all the mechanicals. We are not that experienced with body work and wanted this vehicle to be done right. Hopefully sometime next summer we will be able to drive it. I would like to take it to the fall Bug Run in Martin but that might be wishful thinking.

Yay!
I like the idea of the original Blue with a two tone added and big white walls.

Rick:
A Zwitter was produced from October 52 to around mid-53. You can tell its a zwitter because it has the split rear windshield but the dash is that of an oval window car. It does not have the of dual gloveboxs of a original split. There are a number of other small differences and it is a transition between the split-window and the oval body style.
These are rare cars and parts are hard to get since they were around for only made for a period of 6 months or so. They are quite desdesireable because they have the charm of the splits, but most of the improvements of the ovals.
