This is memory lane for me. I purchased a new 1977 Honda GL1000 (Gold Wing) and sold it in 1979. Recently bought this one and will go through it to make sure things are up to speed. A bit of background. The 1st generation Gold Wings (75-77) were touted as the coming of the next super bike. Except for the Kawasaki 900's; they were at the top of the game. The GW proved to be too smooth and the Vetter Fairing era soon relinquished them to the touring bike they are today. Here's a link to another forum which has the project updates www.ngwclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=40398Pic just after I got it home.

Not really a bike guy but those old gold wings are cool. I checked out the pics on your link and it looks like a neat project. Thanks for sharing.

I, too, enjoyed the thread on the Goldwing forum. Your attention to detail is inspiring. Thanks for sharing.

I always like the early GW's. Spent some time on a trip with a first-year GW that was naked, and I really liked it. It was very smooth, and surprisingly fast.
The owner replaced the exhaust with some chrome Kerker or something like that...I thought the original painted black exhaust with the chrome shields was much cooler. Never could get used to the seat, however...
Yours is going to be WAY cool!
