Picked this car up locally. I've know about it for several years. I could never imagine restoring a vw of this vintage to this level but I am picking up the project mid stream. I have full intentions to complete this project as intended. Hopes are to assemble the project over the winter we'll see how that goes. Here are a few teaser pictures to start off the thread. To give you an idea, it was a rust free CA car to start with. The frame was completely disassembled and the entire pan, seats all suspension components, top frame etc were powder coated. Every bolt was re-zinc coated. Every piece of chrome is NOS or re-chromed. The body is in full paint its original color diamond silver more to follow.

Wow. What an amazing start to a project. Someone sure put a lot into this. Their loss; your gain! What are those funny spring things on the front end? haha.
I look forward to seeing your updates!

Your right Bren, the money spent is crazy. Normally I stick to wide 5 cars but we all have exceptions. Here are some bad cell phone pictures of the car in its current state, body is together frame too but all hardware etc is in boxes.

With all the other stuff you got, that is going to be one sweet Vert. Now I see why there were so many boxes of new parts.

Yeah Steve 1 giant puzzle with tons of pieces to assemble. I'm bringing it up to my the UP on Sunday. Plan is to ~90% assemble it between Jan and March up North and bring it back in the spring the house I rent has a nice heater garage to work in and I am completely out of room here.

Looks amazing! Did you paint it or was it painted already? Would have been really nice in Tripple Black again

Dustin,
It was already professionally painted. It's an original diamond silver car, it had been repainted several times over the original paint in the first pictures I put up.
Loaded up the trailer with my parts tonight, in my boxes of parts steve I found a perfect spare set of headlights for the Mexican, he used to own a 2002 I almost bought a few years ago.

Unloaded the car tonight up here in the UP it's been sitting in my trailer waiting for attention. I'll keep this updated as I work on it this winter in my free time.

Looks like a nice solid car. I drive one of those every once in a while for a friend as I keep it going for here. It is a VERY different driving experience. Hers probably rides nicer than a caddy. It is a big ol cushony but accurate ride. Kinda fun in a different way. You will love the expressway in that thing. Not much for the handling or the dash style though. I saw a very sweet dash replacement on thesamba, you ought to check it out
