Saw a burned out Bay Window, looked like a camper, on 96 E just after the Beltline exit on Friday. Other than the body and wheels there was nothing left.

Unfortuantly on the side of the Highway, just being loaded onto a flatbed. The fire looked like it had just been put out when I drove past.

I have read many times on the samba to not have fuel filters in the engine bay. I have mine under the car in the rubber line there. Can't remember why they thought it was a problem. Maybe less hose clamps to go bad near ignition sources?

I've read its because the weight of the filter pulls the nipple that the gas line hooks to out. My filter is still under the decklid, I can never remember to move it. I really need to one of these days before I'm sorry.

On my way to KOKOMO 4 years ago , I was just about 4 miles north of town @ a stop light . when this guy on a motorcycle came along side and said that I was leaking gas . So I pulled right onto the service road and checked it was a broken line so bad that the foam seal (body to engine ) you could squezzzzzz out gas . Within 2 min. there was a man and wife stopped and helped , he ran and got me a gas line and clamps . I didn't know due to my gas gage not working at the time . This is why I now carry a nice set of tools and a bag of little things that just mite help the next guy . I'm not good with names but he was driving a Hummer type Thingy . If your out there Thank You . Glen

I too came close with the Ghia I was driving home from work about 5 years ago and my engine started grinding. About that time smoke started to fill the interior and blow out from under my deck lid. With no fire extinguisher I was doomed. After popping the lid I found a fried bearing on the generator and it was spinning on the magnets. Lucky me. After cooling down I just drove the last mile until I was home.
I now carry a fire extinguisher in the Ghia
