I have a VW motor @ the house that I picked up for my Buggy , It's a 1600 DP . The info I'm looking for is the heads that I pulled off have (GO1) casted in the valve area under the valve cover . Has anyone heard of this after market type head ? , and are they any good ?

Hey Glen, A friend of mine has a pair of these for a project motor. He is still in the parts collecting stage, so no report on function, but they look to be a little better than the other stuff we were finding on the market these days. He got his from Al of FunBuggies fame. Also saw some at Appletree when we looked there about a year ago. Hope this helps. Rudy

Is Al from funbuggies still in business? I never met him and I know he closed his shop, but anytime you ask someone around here about VW's his name always comes up.

That guy had split personality I swear. And yes he is all done. Never got a straight answer from anyone as to why. It was a huge hit to the hobby to lose that store. Butt head or not at least you could get something when you needed it.

Never met the guy, but anyone dedicated to the hobby can't be that bad, it does suck dealing with people that don't seem to want to help though. You see all types in this scene, I've met some pretty strange cats that have forgot more about vw's than I'll ever know. Sorry for the thread jack.

Butt head or not at least you could get something when you needed it. Just needed a lot of cash when you went there. I heard that he retired because of health issues.

I've bought everything from a to z from him over the years and never I mean never had a problem, I for one wish him luck in his battle with the big C and wish him a long life. Later Kenn

FunBuggies is not in business any more. Though I believe Al still sells some parts, but that would probably depend on how he was feeling that day.

So far I found this on thesamba I don't have the book but someone might.
I don't know about online, but the book "How to Rebuild Your Volkswagen Aircooled Engine" By Tom Wilson, HP Books, has complete listing of stock VW heads by "part numbers" Describing all the pertinent specifications for the part number, like year, application, valve size, etc.
