It was nice meeting you, I really like the baja! The wife said SHE could roll in that. Sorry you got out of here late, hope your in-laws weren't too miffed. Rick

So, anybody think I should keep it as a baja? I'm thinking some suspension seats might take care of the back issues. Not to mention , leaving it its current height would make it easier to get in and out of. Hot rodding it isn't going to look right at all without lowering it big time, then I probably could get in, but not get out. LOL. What do you guys think? one piece front end, lights on the front bumper, nicer wheels, suspension seats and a lot nicer interior. and MAYBE a color change. or do you guys vote for volksrod, or lowered, wide fendered street machine with exposed engine?

so. not much of an update. BUT... some decisions have been made, now I'm just waiting on finances to get sorted out (end of this month!!!!) I will be buying a one piece front end from vwrick69. I will also be getting wheels/tires. Still not sure on the tires, but wheels will probably be 4 lug centerlines.

Yea it would be silly to get rid of such a clean bug to start over with some ratty one. The best thing about the Beetle is it can be reborn into anything. If you want to DEbaja it then there are pieces available to do that.. If anything its lighter than a street car and looks great. Just get some other tires and you are a street car. I think its sweet just the way it is (though I liked the small trunk lid on it! I was actually thinking of getting it for myself but Im married to my present "project". I say keep it and grow with it and make it the way you truly like it.

That Pinto conversion you are inquiring about isn't AIR COOLED.

havent done anything to the bug lately, still waiting on the money I should have in another couple weeks. I will be getting a one piece front end from vwrick69, probably a bunch of other things depending on how things work out and what he has left when the time comes. today though, I went cruising around in the landlord's field (crops are in for the season), and stopped for a photo op, and one of the pics came out looking like the car was fake, almost like I need to get a wind up key for the back of it, LOL.

We have a guy in the club who has a street bug with a Saab sonnet v4 water cooled engine in it! Can't see doing any water cooled conversion other than maybe a turbo WRX motor. But I really think its cheaper and easier overall to stay with air cooled and just make a big thumpin VW motor.

The Pinto conversion works best in rails. You still have to plumb it for a radiator, and it's heavier. More power though, but it makes it ponderous on the street.
Keep it air-cooled.
