my buggy front suspension is topped out all the time. really want to soften it up without breaking the bank. can i just pull one of the set screws in the middle and run on just on set of leaves in the front? ie pull the set screw out of the bottom and run just the top leaves?

ok, so will removing the setscrew release the tension on the springs?

He is just saying to use only one set of springs rather than two.

ok, so will removing the setscrew release the tension on the springs? I don't think it does. I think the set screw just helps keep the torsion leaves from moving side to side. I would look at shocks before I change the torsion. What shocks are you running?

What shocks are you running? just plain hydraulic shocks i got from the bug barn. about as soft as they come. shocks shouldnt effect ride height unless there gas charged or coilover.

I have heard about putting in a through rod in place of a set of the leaves. Don't know much about it though.

What Rudy did was to make one set of leaves into a sway bar of sorts. If you want to soften the ride you could use a through rod in place of one set of springs. Or, remove leaves one at a time until you achieve the desired ride height. That's how the cal-look guys lowered the front in the "old days".

what anchors the torsions to make the torsions? they have to be held in place in the middle to put any pressure on the outside holding the car up right?

Seems like the removing the set screw would have some effect. Aren't the leaves full lenght of the beam? The ends are set into the suspension arms and the middle is locked in position with the set screw to allow each wheel to have independant suspension.
Anyone know who the guy was at this years buggy builders that was selling the new/rebuilt axle beams. He would be the guy to know. Anyone have his contact info?

hello at the good volks club. just joined the club. im ron in eaton rapids. ghiastein knows me. this is the only place i saw to ask a question. so here gooes. my 1970 vw bus sets up to high in front and rides somewhat stiff. changed shocks to regular one didn't make any difference. my neighbor has a 1971 bus and his sits a the same level all the way around and rides good and not stiff. any suggestions. thanks.

Welcome. I don't know if the Bus beam is adjustable. You might get more response on our Facebook page.

Bus beam is not adjustable. Very similar in construction to the bug beam, just heavier duty.
Has the rear torsion sagged? If it has you can adjust that by disassembling, re-index the torsion bars, and reassemble. Tables for rotations vs ride hight are all over the place for bugs. I imagin there must be one for busses floating around out there.
