Hi, my names Robert, I live in Standish Michigan and recently picked up this rail as a basket case. I know nothing about them but I have some automotive background so hopefully I can get this thing running. It don't run, I was told the kid I bought it from got it from a guy who left the air filters off and it ended up raining and the pistons rusted to the cylinder walls. So someone along the road took half the motor apart and left it at that, since then I was able to free up the pistons but we busted one of the jugs in the process. I have been searching for a cheap set of used jugs just to see if the motor will run and I was told this may have a stroker kit so finding used parts will be even more fun, so I believe I am giving up on this motor. On the brighter side I was given a (we believe) a 1974 porsche 914 2.0L I was told should bolt right up so I think I will begin to try and rebuild that motor. I am looking for people close to Standish who may be able to help in getting this running, Thanks. Attachments:

Welcome! Your rail looks like a great project to take on. It is true the type4 engines are a bit more to repair, but on the other hand; they're unique and would be a great addition.

It snowed today so I don't wanna go outside but I will get pictures of everything if it warms up, The porsche motor I found cool because the carb is connected to like an X pipe that connects to the heads for the intake rather than the carb actually mounting to the block. The reason I was told that the motor on the buggy may be a stroker is that the part of the jug that slides into the engine block goes in like an inch whereas the used stock jugs I was given only go in maybe a half inch at most, I was told they had to go in the extra distance since the pistons had to draw into the block farther than normal. Will have pictures of everything ASAP. I am pretty sure the jugs are 88mm bore, but I need jugs that seat in the block like and inch in again will have pics soon. I will start like a progress thread or something instead of over loading this thread.
Also money for this project is very limited so If I can find a way to get the motor thats on the rail running I rather do that if the porsche motor is going to be alot more to fix. If the motor on the rail can be fixed then the porsche motor will be sold.
And for you mad mike you don't happen to know Judy Duncan lives out on airport road do you, if so that's my grandma.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes and hopefully I can figure out something and get the rail running and road legal, then I can afford to do some cruising and maybe come meet some of you. Getting the rail road legal was my main inspiration in buying it since my pickup only get a whopping 13mpg, I work 40ish miles from home so 80-100$ a week goes to my gas tank so the rail will be nice.
