A friend of mine is a fabricator and custom painter. He builds many hot rods but has a soft spot for Vws, I just wanted to share a few with you guys! This one is awesome! The link after is a bunch more pictures, Check out the dash. www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=1910&id=100002017505720This one is a faux patina super 4inch beam. now he's building a one off roof rack for it. He is also slamming a ghia right now. 4inch beam and drops. Last but not least a squashed volksrod in the back of the picture and to its left you can kind of see his "slammed 2 door conversion vw thing. Just wanted to share!

I love the first car. Saw it at the lansing show a few years back. Absolutely beautiful work. We need to see his cars at some of our shows!

Frankly, I find faux patina cars stupid.
It seems really strange that anyone would spend all of that time and money replicating what happens naturally. I can see patina on an original car, but not on a nice car to make it look crappy. I saw some very nice ($80,000 plus) cars that had that treatment, and I just don't see it.
If you build a car, but start with an old car, and finish it that way, it's fine. A lot of folks built them that way back in the day...but to start with a nice car, and then pay good money to look haphazard...
Guess I'm just an old fart.

The patina is a story of the vehicles life and the owners care. Blending a replacement panel in to the original character may be necessary, but creating a complete false identity is just horrible. People even make surface rust on fiberglass. It would be better to earn the patina on sunny drives with your arm and hands wearing off the paint.

Nice rides! As far as patina goes, fake never looks as "good" as real. You can always tell when someone DA's or scotchbrite's the paint to create the effect. In the end, it looks like someone started the bodywork and was too lazy to finish.

Based on the work I saw on the volks rod I imagine the 'patina' car looks amazing in person. Then again, I am partial to the patina look.

The patina Bug needs some 135's and the front down more the complete the look. Also love the Volksrod convertible. That car was amazing in person.

I love the patina look, OG paint faded from years and years is all character of the car. I also love paint work and the art of paint. The faux patina car is a customers and a work of art. The owner just loves the look of the car, so to each his own.
