I had vacation the whole week of the 4th. And, the weekend before the 4th was supposed to be a race weekend in Ohio. Race got rained out so I got even more time on the bus! Here is an update on what I have been up to: Got my parts a little more organized: Hung a couple temporary lights to extend my hours: Wheels and tires ready to go on: Fatmat and Dynamat hoodliner kit installed in engine bay. Also Fatmat in gas tank area along with truck bed liner: Fatmat, 'nasa' foil bubble wrap insulation, and waterproof poly insulation in all door and wall cavities and other critical locations: Touched up the white on the seat bases and the black on parking brake, pedal arms, steering column etc: Installed a little bling: Ran speaker wires through the A pillar and through the roof to the back of the bus so I can install rear speakers some day. This turned into a bit of a fiasco. When pulling the wood headliner down to access the top of the A pillar a bunch of mouse poop rolled out. Made me REAL happy!. So, the factory insulation came out. Then a bunch of vacuum work and a bunch of fabreze was applied. But, the benefit was, Fatmat applied on inside of roof, then "nasa" insulation, then (clean) stock type insulation after that. Should be much quieter in the front seats now! Installed rear side window with help from John, AJ, and Todd. This allows the interior to go in.: Got the left rear vent wing torn down and ready for paint and seal install: Working on getting the floor board ready to go in. Need to select and purchase flooring. Looking at a linoleum with that old school look: Tonight, again with the help of AJ, and under the watchful eye of Todd, Chris, John and Marie, we got the rear windshield installed: Got the factory style mat cut out to fit the empi trigger shifter mounted. Sporting the custom made by AJ pool ball shift knob! That is the update for now. Making good progress I think. Goal is to have the bus at the Fall Bug Run, 2013. Hopefully it will parked next to the Hansen's Zwitter!

AWESOME!!!!!!! Great pics{I wish I knew how to post pics like that....} Did you buy that shifter off me at Lansing? Looks great, I was not aware AJ makes shifter knobs? ? If you get REALLY PROFICENT at those campers, I have a COUPLE you can PLAY with. Give me a shout when you redo the canvas, I would like to help you, so I get some experience before I try mine. GREAT JOB, Bren.

GREAT JOB, Bren. Rick: I tentatively plan to install the canvas and top over Labor Day weekend. What are you doing then? Shifter came off Samba. Yes, AJ makes shifter knobs. Not sure if he does more than pool balls though. After this camper I don't want to do another unless it needs absolutely NO rust repair. That bus looks GREAT!!!! Is the other one in the garage a FUTURE project or Parts bus? The other one is a '68. AJ and I bought it together for parts. He got his custom ladder off this parts bus. Once my bus is done I am going to remove all bits worth saving and scrap the rest. How do you keep your shop sooo clean and organized? Do you have a "Maid " come in weekly? Mine always looks like a hand granade full of crap just went off..... ;D Yea, mine usally has the bomb effect too.

Got a few more things done on the bus lately. Third brake light installed; thanks for the idea AJ! Also got the door seal installed along with the latch. Front emblem installed. Marie and I bought this in Albuquerque,NM on our Route 66 trip. Front seat mats and front seats installed. Got the rear hinge cover modified so it can be removed with the closet installed. Want to someday install speakers in it.: Made and installed a new rear hatch wood panel: Found 1/8" birch plywood at Johnson Lumber in Charlotte. Made a new panel for the sliding door. Going to use the same material to make front door panels, eventually: Installed the Uber Rare inner camper window seals: Installed the sliding door track cover and the one on the opposite side. Also got the door seal and all latch stuff installed on the sliding door. Tonight I got back to the engine a little. Working on fitting everything. First up is the berg oil pump cover, need to clear the 'mustache bar'. Hope to have the engine done by Labor Day weekend. Over Labor Day weekend I hope to get the top and canvas installed. Canvas is in; just need to get the top back from the painter.

Rick, you may be in luck. The main fiberglass top did not get done. I have everything else. He is now targeting having it ready for the weekend of 9/14. Maybe we can reschedule? Maybe we can get AJ to help us since he has done one already.

Had a 4 day weekend. Spent most of it on the bus. Got the first piece of the cushions back. John stopped by and we installed the arm rest: Marie and I got the front bumper installed. Took many hours. Lots of adjusting, shimming, etc. Very tedious. Turned out pretty good we think: Got the roof rack portion of the fiberglass top put together and installed. Lost an hour or so looking for those tie downs. Of course I had put them where I would find them later.... Headlights installed. Sounds easy, still took a long time. Just finding the proper screws took for what seemed like forever. Buying a vehicle already torn down saves time initially. Costs a lot of time when parts are not fully tagged and bagged. I have never liked the look of the early bay front turn signals. I planned from the beginning to shave them. Did not have a solid plan for replacement turn signals. Was leaning toward turn signals in the headlights. For now going with these: Did some work on the front doors. Installed the door seals and the latches. Then prepped the vent wings to go in. Drilled out rivet and painted the frame, installed new seals and replaced the rivet: Found my new favorite tool at the Ft. Wayne show. That nylon stick. Great for installing rubber seals and only cost $2! Should have bought more. Did a little work on the brakes. Checking them out to see overall condition. Right rear was not working at all. No fluid coming out of the bleeder screw. Napa actually had that hose in stock. I think I found the problem: Could not find the washer nozzles. Good thing AJ and I bought that part bus: All seals for engine bay installed: New battery. Pep Boys carries Bosch. Less than a month to the Bug Run. I still hope to have the bus there under it's own power.
