So I was thinking about doing this and I figured well whatever...So this is after John and I got the car running, I also had it half way taped off getting it ready for paint. and now with the rest of it taped and sanded Before paint I pulled off the door panels and took out all the insulation out, it was stopping my windows from rolling up and down. After Paint IMG]http://i646.photobucket.com/albums/uu188/VR6newb/My%20Beetle/61302_1647126900582_1309217369_1750605_2995187_n.jpg[/IMG] Thats it for now I got more parts in route...

lol.. yeah there was no way I was rolling in a purple car, Dustin kept arguing with me saying it was Pink. Its only a temporary paint in tell I can afford a professional paint job, I've got the color picked out (Dark Brown Metallic).

A year or so ago there was a Ghia 'vert on The Samba F/S somewhere in western NY. It was a pan-off restoration that was ready to be put back together. The guy wanted something like $10-grand for it unassembled. It was right out of the paint shop and it was a BEAUTIFUL Pink Enamel made to match a particular REVLON NAIL POLISH. I think he was doing it for his wife and she left him.
I talked to Pam about it at the time, but she didn't want to cash in a CD to get it. For the best, in hindsight.
It was a gorgeous car, but only if you had a woman in your life. I wouldn't wanna be seen driving it.

Matt, Finally I got to splitting your engine. I also found the problem. Just like I had mentioned one of the main bearings had grabbed the crank. it wasn't the bearing that I had thought it was (rear main) but the first big main bearing. What happened is that the bearing spins lose in the case and wobbles out the dowel pin hole some so the bearing will spin in the case and stop on the pin. I believe that there was an oiling issue with this engine. By looking at the center main saddle you can see where the oil has washed through because of either a bad line bore or improper torquing of the case halves. I did get a surprise when I opened up your case and found an after market cam. I don't know if you knew this was in there or not but it is a Scatt C35. If my memory service me right the C35 is close to be the same as an Engle 110. Very nice cam for the street. I actual am running this same cam in my small turbo engine. So my suggestion would be to build your engine up just a little bit as long as it is all right with you? My thought would be to use 87mm piston instead of stock pistons to give your engine a displacement of 1641cc.Then give it some where in between 8 to 8:5to1 compression. Using high rev springs on the heads with heavy duty aluminum push rods to keep the profile of the cam in tack. To make this engine run up to its patentual I would recommend dual carbs weather it is 40mm Kadrons (two single barrel carbs) or a dual set of Weber IDF's, I like the 36mm carbs on an engine this size but they are hard to find but Mad Mike seams to have good luck with 40mm Webers on an engine this size. Last but not least a 1 1/2 in merged if possible header. Clinton

I wouldn't mind the upgrades but money is the issue I don't know if I could afford building up the motor that way, If you can let me know what your thinking money wise for the upgrade then I can let you know if its a go or not.

Well, the upgrade for the pistons, springs and push rods will not raise the cost to much but the carbs and header can. My suggestion would be to try and pick those things up at the buggy swap meet. I do have a friend that has a set of Kadrons I could talk him out of. If you want I can ask what he wants for them?
