Hello I am Jeff Herriman I live in San Diego. I was invited to your site by Dave Riedle. We share a common interest in an uncommon VW variant built in Brazil.
I have been rebuilding the Puma for the last year. It has a 1980 convertible body - two seater known as a GTC model. The front end is a 1970-71 superbeatle. The Rear is a 1968 type1 swing arm. The body pan is VW and rumor has it similar to a Ghia.
What is interesting about the car is they were imported to North America partially assembled. The cars came in without engines. The engines were in a separate crate and installed by the dealer. Brazil makes many non-us auto parts of which the Puma is comprised. I have done a lot of minor modifications to US VW parts to get the car up and running.
The car was powered by a 1600 (1970) vintage with a single carburetor.
The engine blew so I now have a 2 liter motor with dual carbs. The suspension has been modified with sway bars for and aft. New spindles and brake hardware. Electrically I am still installing bits and pieces and almost finished. Transmission and paint are next.
I look forward to hearing from you all. I hailed from Grand Rapids as a boy and Detroit thru high school. Went west and stayed out here.

There's a guy in SD named Brien Hemrick. Besides having a mother who can't spell Brian, he has a Karmann Ghia and is in the Yahoo KG group. Do you know him? Why not? There's only like a million and a half people out there.... You should know him.... Seriously, he knows air-cooled. Welcome to the club! Do you remember the '84 World Series?

WOW, one more San Diego "dude" on the forums. Welcome. My family and I moved to the midwest from San Diego in 2000. Lived in Clairemont, Lakeside, San Marcos and Escondido for many, MANY years. Sometimes I miss it (like every winter and every "beach" day) and sometimes I don't.
Good group on these forums. Very knowledgeable and very VW oriented. They also put on one mean VW show.
Welcome to the GoodVolks family.

Welcome, I too lived in San Diego. In El Cajon near the airport. I miss the weather, but love the change of seasons here!
