I just read the Midwest Scene article in the newest Hot VW's and it mentioned Formula First an extension or "update" to the old Formula Vee racing series. I think it looks like a ton of fun and want to check out a race when it comes to Grattan in August formula-first.org/ |

Dustin: They are an absolute ball. Did a dozen laps or so at Grattan a few years ago. Sadly, it was a struggle to get in and get out. Fat, non-limber guys like me need not apply... Had a GREAT time. Only time I have ever been back in an open wheel car since the crash. My only complaint, the cars are stone ugly. Probably a lot better than the old ones, but the cars from the mid-sixties and early seventies had style up the wazoo.  Dave |

Bad crash at Nelson Ledges while practicing in a Formula Atlantic.
Destroyed the car, got banged up pretty bad. Haven't been in a fast open wheel car since. The formula first cars go fast enough to hurt you, but it really doesn't seem like they do. I tried to get back in a fast open wheel car a couple of month after the crash, and just couldn't do it.
Bet I still couldn't.
