Hi Everyone,
We are new to the board. Started lurking here recently and found the post about the 72 standard beetle by Gun Lake. Went and looked at it twice over the weekend and picked it up monday. It was an adventure getting it home. Big thanks to Todd and Dave. Dave was nice enough to let us stop off at his house to check a couple things on the way home with it. This is my wife's second beetle. First one she had years ago and she was keeping an eye out to get another for summer driving. I myself am a Jeep CJ guy so these tiny cars all greek at this point. I can tell you that I tried driving it, hit 60mph, and started smoking the front tires on the fenders. That pretty much ended my test drive. We will need some tech advice on how to fix that problem in the future. Looking forward to meeting some of you at a local gathering or cruise.

Welcome Kevin. Was that the blue one? Yessir it was. Wife has it purring like a kitten. ran like heck trying to get it from Gun Lake to home. Another thing on the list is try and back track to the owner before the one we got it from. reason being is we were told it was running dual carbs and raced at 131.... Curious as to how 1600 the 1600 really is... |

The former owner you are looking for lives in Richland, on M-89. I will have to see if I have his number still. At one time it had a bigger engine in it, I want to say a 2276, but, he replaced it with a 1600 to sell it.

Kevin and Georgette, nice to meet ya both today. Hope you had a good time. It was great meeting you and everyone else today. We had a lot of fun meeting everyone and hope to make it to more events. We made it back home with no issues and got the reverse lights working tonight. It was a ground issue with the drivers side reverse light bulb. We reconnected a couple wires and took out the three way connector. Thanks for everyone's help today with that as well. Kevin & Georgetta |
