What spare parts do you have in your VW for road repair? What do you prepare for?
I have an extra fuel filter, points and some hose clamps.

I usually carry all of the parts that went bad during all of my 10 years of VW motoring.
Belt Fuel Pump and Gasket Distributor Coil Points Condenser Extra Spark Plugs Used Working Plug Wire (the longest one in the set) Used Working Coil Wire Rebuilt Carburetor Spare Bulbs and Fuses Spare Tire Fix-a-Flat Jack Full Set of Tools purchased from Harbor Freight Extra Fuel Hose and Clamps Fuel Filter Zip Ties Paper Towels Inner and Outer Front Wheel Bearings with Special Washer Generator / Alternator Bearing Grease Oil Brake Fluid Used but Good Clutch Cable Used but Good Accelerator Cable Extra Lug Bolts Fire Extinguisher
Some people might say my list is rather long and useless, but when you are stranded and the part you need is sitting your garage its not fun.
I have a large tool bag that everything fits into minus the larger items. Also the farther I travel from home the more stuff I take. I even carry an extra Pedal Cluster in the Ghia because I do not really trust the one I have.

AJ, you forgot Transmission! ;D If I carried everything I broke on the road I would need a motor and transmission! Or, just a crank .

Get rid of that fix-a-flat. They should rename it Ruin-A-Rim.
Just my laid back, easy going opinion ;D

Get rid of that fix-a-flat. They should rename it Ruin-A-Rim. Rudy I know all about the dangers of fix-a-flat. I worked a Sears Auto Center for 2 years. I hated the stuff, but fast forward to today and I am not the one who changes tires any more. Here is the deal when I worked at AutoZone they had the stuff on special. Buy one get one free so I purchased 2 cans with my discount of course. One day I was driving and hit a massive pot hole it dented my rim and tore a hole in my side wall. No big deal right but dummy me never checked my spare, it too was flat. With that can of fix-a-flat I aired up my spare and continued on my journey. I carry all that stuff because I hate braking down. Funny Bren "Spare Transmission" What about spare engine? Or spare Car? I have a story about everything I carry because I broke it during my journeys. Plus back in my younger years I was a Boy Scout. Remember Be Prepared? One thing I forgot to add to my list is something Wifey purchased for the Bus... First Aid Kit

I will have to make up a small spare parts kit to go under the back seat. I take it a Fire Extinguisher is a must have.
Thanks

Definitely carry a fire extinguisher in your car. Get one rated for auto's. I had a engine fire once and the extinguisher saved my car. Only had some damage to wiring and inside the decklid. I drove the car home afterwards. Without that extinguisher I would have been filing a claim for a total loss.

I just picked up a handfull for this trip as I was getting low. This time around Im also carrying an electric sizor jack, got it free from a gm contest deal. Ive used it and it actually works lets hope I dont need to use it. Im debating on jack stands. I may take as I might want to take advantage of this trip to get some help with the carbs.

AJ, it isn't just the mess this crap makes when subsequently working on the tire, it is the destruction of the rim that it does over time. I suppose it would be great if the affected tire and rim went to get a proper repair (and clean-up) the next day. You are right, it does have some value in an emergency, but I'd rather carry two spare tires...................
Kenn, don't worry. No one will take our wives' opinion seriously..........look who they married
