I read about how guys loosen up the front brakes to keep the straight when off roading, Has anyone ever thought of using an adjustable proportioning valve instead?

Yes, folks do it all the time. LOTS of brake options, especially if you like to play in the sand or dirt.

you can also switch front and rear wheel around, I did that with my baja years ago
