Just noticed the re-arrangement of the site, so I figured I'd give this off road section a thread. I got some new tires for the baja to run up at silver lake. Its a 1600dp, so I didn't wanna go with full out paddle tires, so here's what I got: They're sand viper desert explorers, 12.00 by 15. I don't have a good pic of them on the car from the side yet, I have to get it outside first.

I hear those are nice to run. Nice thing about them over paddles is you can drive them on the road around town. I have a set. I plan to compare them to the paddles and see which performs better all around. Looking good, We need to have a Silver Lake GTG this summer. I agree! That would be a blast.

Sounds like a plan for silver lake, that would be cool. I don't plan to run these tires on the street too far unless I have to, due to the excessive camber that comes with a jacked up swing axle, but they're good for dirt and mud and stuff like that. I'm gonna test it out in the field next door when I get it all ready.
They have a little bit of a scoop to them, so if they bog too much on my little 1600, I could always flip them side to side and have the scoops going the other way.

Did you see the latest Hot VW article on bolt on performance? Interesting how much more you can get out of the engine with them.

man you just reminded me I gotta subscribe to some VW magazines... but Yeah, I've done some reading, and bolt ons can wake up a 1600 pretty good, I think jugs and cylinders are considered a bolt on too.... ;D
we'll see what the future brings. the motor on the baja has been rebuilt not too long ago and sounds good.

I got them from Vee Dub Parts Unlimited in CA, they were 390 bucks shipped to my door, just the tires.

Those tires look slick on there.
IMO Silver lake GTG should probably be around August.. July its just hot and busy 24/7.. August it starts to slow down a bit.

when I get the stupid thing running right, maybe I can test them out before I actually have to go up there in 2 weeks.
