So I was getting coffee Wed morning at the local gas station and an Ottawa county sheriff vehicle pulled in after me. I didn't think much about it until I was paying for my coffee at the counter and noticed 2 men in uniform staring at the back of my ghia. I'm thinking, oh crap, did I forget to put on my license tabs? So I walk out and they both say, "this your car", uh... yes. "We love your car. My dad used to have a beetle when I was younger and my buddy here is restoring one". Twenty minutes later after much reminiscing over our younger days, beetles, cold feet, how well they move through snow and the standard good ol days stories I happily drove to work. I passed on the info for this Sunday's Bug Run and they both think they're going to attend. ;D This is the best part about owning a classic. I love having people I've never met come up and start a conversation over my car. Mike

Mike. I too was pulled over a month or so ago, by a county cop with lights and all. I wasn't paying attention to my speed, so like a good dooby I pulled over and asked the two officers whats the problem? The one said is your car for sale? When I said no, he asked if I knew of any for sale I told him about a Thing in Wayland that had been for sale. Don't know if they found it or not. We talked VWs for quite a while, before the one cop said are you going to be late to work do you need an escort? I told him no but thanks. But I hear what your saying about interest in classics especially VWs. Later Kenn Later Kenn

Cool story Mike. I would have been very nervous walking back to my car! My only encounter with police in the beetle was for an actual ticket, speeding. Got it waved though by putting in a new speedometer as mine was bad. That officer was not at all interested in VW's! I hope my next encounter is like yours or Kenns. I'm surprised they used lights and sirens to pull you over just to talk to you Kenn. Crazy. I would have taken the escourt, that would have been fun. -Bren

No siren just lights that was enough to scare the bejesus out of me. I would have dumped with the siren at 4.10 AM. they came up on me so fast that was the last thing I was expecting. Later Kenn

I remember driving my Ghia in Goshen IN after it was primer Black with my Rims and the stinger pipe out the back. Each week for about a month a different cop pulled me over with just lights. Just to look over the car ask for registration drivers license but never a ticket.
Also once driving home from Ohio late night just driving over the 69 freeway on US 6. I was pulled over for no tail light just a quick thump on the drivers side tail light solved that problem the bonus was no ticket.

The only time I was pulled over in my Beetle was for speeding and the cop wasn't very nice about it. All I was doing was passing these 2 guys who kept slowing down and giving eachother the slug bug and I had enough and needed to get to work. I was late anyway The local officer in town here knows us and said his daughter loves Splash and he wants to take mine for a ride.
