Wells: I took the liberty to post these here for you. Just copy the IMG line below the photo in photobucket and paste it here. Photos will then show up right in your thread. Glad to see you posting your project in here. What are your plans for the car? -Bren

I want to turn the car into a daily driver. I crawled around and under it yesterday and found that I need to pull the body. It is going to take some time but it will be fun.

Why do you need to pull the body? On a Superbeetle its a little more difficult

15 or 16 years ago we acquired this gem and only put enough into it to get it on the road for our teenaged son. I wasn't happy with the way the car ran or the shocks etc, so we put it away until I could afford to do it right. I patched the pans back then, and it seemed okay with all of the undercoating, etc. I put on it. As I dig into this more and more, I'm finding some deterioration around my past work. I need to pull up carpet and seats to see how much deterioration there really is. So far, I'm not encouraged.

From the pics it looks pretty solid. Its gotta be nice to daily drive a volkswagen, I drive a work van everyday. Its nice not paying for gas but I would much rather drive my beetle. Does anyone have a little project like this laying around they could part with? I have a friend thats been looking for something like this for a long time but hasn't had any luck. Sorry for the thread jack.

Don't worry about it! The body is pretty solid. A couple of very fixable spots. I found quite a bit of rust under the "rocker panels". That don't light my fire! I will keep plodding along and asking questions and reading the books (thanks Bren) and posting progress. I really am excited about this car!

If you ever need help with anything just ask, Also I know about the heater channels and they really aren't that bad to replace but if just the bottoms are bad then you can just patch them with panels you can buy from about any VW Parts place.
Jerry,
I don't want to tie up this thread but I usually post cars in the Classifieds here that are local and priced well. Also check craigslist and thesamba.com and I'm sure there will be some this weekend at the BugRun.

Hey Wells,
Looks like a really great car to start with. Very solid! That's alway a big plus.
