I offered to let John bring his squareback over to pull the motor. AJ offered to help. So, Saturday we got the car out of storage and towed it to my house. We put it into the garage and jacked it up just like the manual said. Then John and AJ removed the necessary wiring and hoses as I read the manual. Here is the engine ready to come out. Motor properly supported, John crawl underneath to remove the last bolts. Bolts were fighting John: So AJ got in there and completed the task: And then it came right out. Actually this was easier to remove than in a beetle. Much more room to work. And here he is with his next project, a motor to rebuild! From here we loaded the engine into John's Jeep and hauled it to his Dad's and hung it on the engine stand. And from here I will let John tell you the rest of the story.

John called and said he got it out but didn't say he did it at your house.

Ghia's have even more room than the Square Back the bonus is that it is still a Type 1 engine.
This goes out to all of the Beetle guys I can remove the 2 machine screws on the ends of the fan shroud with a standard flat screw driver. Plus I can stick my head in there to check alignment before I insert the screw.

AJ: That space is meant to be filled with something. Maybe some big carbs? -Bren

Don't I need a big engine to handle big carbs. Let me see here Dual 48IDA on a stock 1500cc engine this might work. Plus I will still have tons of room for adjustment.
