A couple of weeks ago I noticed my car was starting to run a little rough, so I checked things out and my distributor was loose. I tightened it and all seamed well for a awhile, well today I went for a spin and it idled rough and started hard after it was warm. I checked the distributor again and it was loose, but the collar that holds it tight won't tighten up any more. Anyone have any suggestions on what to do?

AJ here
I just went through my collection of distributors because I could not remember what the hold down looked like. What I found was that the bolt on the collar bends after 40 years use. This is what I recommend ether purchase a heavy duty hold down clamp or remove your hold down and replace the bolt and nut. Also if needed straighten out your hold down. To gain more clamping force you could open up the clamping space a bit with a grinder but be careful.

I was thinking about grinding down the clamp. It looks like the clamp is as tight as it will go, I haven't had a chance to take a good look at it yet. Thanks for the input.

Well I cut out of work early today so I figured I would work on my car, get a few bugs worked out before next weekend. I pulled the distributor and clamp, where the bolt went through the clamp there was a little nipple that wouldn't allow the clamp to close all the way, so I cut that off and I'm all set. While I was back there I noticed one of the baffles in my tail pipe was loose and hanging out the end a bit, so I pulled both tail pipes off, its kinda loud and pretty ghetto but it will have to work for now. Maybe I'll get lucky and find something at the swap meet next weekend. When I was all finished I closed my hood and noticed the button on the deck lid had popped almost all the way out, so I open it back up and it slips out of my hand and cracks me in the forehead leaving a nice little cut above my eye. I've opened that lid a thousand times and never had that happen, oh well. I need to find a pin that holds the button to the latch and I will be golden.

What kind of exhaust are you running or are you looking for? I probably have the deck lid piece for you.

I want to eventually run the 2 tip euro exhaust but I'll probably end up buying it over the winter, my exhaust now is the stock pea shooter minus the shooter(chrome tips). I don't need a new button I just have to find a pin to hold it all together.
