A dealer I have purchased a number of Puma parts from in Brazil just acquired a very rare and unusual Karmann Ghia TC, and wondered if I was interested in buying it. He was interested in my Puma after seeing it in Hot VWs. This was a more modern "replacement" for the venerable KG. This one is pretty nice, and priced accordingly...about $13,600 US dollars. Uncommon, even in Brazil. Apparently they rust with just exposure to air, and after seeing what happens to many Puma floorpans, I can sure believe it. There are a lot of other cars I think I would own for that price... Dave Riedle

Interesting car. You can almost see some 911 in that side profile.

Very different looking car any pictures of the motor?
It looks like a Ghia and a 411 got together and had this.
Some VW should not inter-breed
OH Crap I have a Ghia and a Bus luckily they are in separate pens

Curt:
I think you are thinking about a VW SP1 and SP2. They are the same thing, but the SP1 has a 1600 motor, and the SP2 has a 1700 motor. They are VERY cool, but expensive. They look considerably better in person even. I have spent time in a nice white SP2, but that car was sold for $18,000 and is now in Great Britain.
Two things stand out about them. They were very slow, because they were quite heavy, and the interiors, like most '70s Brazilian cars, were a bit spotty.
Several sources even believe that the Puma was one of the reasons it was unsuccessful, because Pumas had the same basic power, but were about 550 pounds heavier. It was only brought grudgingly into Europe, where it sold less than 700 examples. VW did not support it well because it was as much money as the VW/Porsche 914 models. They were sold from 1971 to 1978.
Intestinally, VW has recently done a SP show car, which is fabulous.
