I have 135's on the front and 165's on the rear, well one of the rear tires left me this afternoon, so I'm in need of new rears. I stopped by a couple tire shops and neither had a 165, what other sizes are you guys are running?

I would stick with the 165's But the problem is they will take a few months to get in. I have a pair that were on the front of my Super then I changed to 135's I might consider getting rid of.

Is there a size I can buy off the shelf that'll be close enough? The guy at belle tire said the closest thing they had was a 185 70 r15, he said it was an inch shorter but quite abit wider. Do you think this size will work alright? My car has a bit of rake to it so the inch shorter doesn't bother me, its the wider I'm worried about. Any suggestions are appreciated I would like to get back on the road asap.

First this I would do would be jack up your car and stick jack stands under the control arms so the suspension is compressed. So your tires are sitting at their normal ride height. Pull out your handy tape measure and check the fit. I would be a little worried about installing the wider tires on the rear. You will have worse inner tire ware because of the wider tire.

I would call around a bit more. Try VW places. Call R&N in Portage 269-329-0900, Battle Creek Buggy in B.C. 269-964-3155, Don's Sport Buggy in Perry. Randy at Towns End might have some though I don't know if he stocks tires or not.

Another option would be to try aircooled.net. I saw he posted on the Samba that he still had some. Might be gone now but worth a call.

Southpaw if your nieghbor still has a set for sale I would definitly be interested. I really don't need all four, but if the price is right I would take them. Ruffuss I've never ran bias ply before, are there any negative to running them? If your tires are in decent shape I would also be interested, I'm not sure what there worth so let me know. The tires I had where radials and quite old, so they came apart, the tread seperated from the rest of the tire. Would bias ply's have this problem? I have one beat up fender, and would hate to make it a pair.
thanks jerry

Jerry, bia belted are the old time tire before the radial. They hum until they get warmed up and ride hard. Your not suppose to run them with radials2 and 2. they were orginal equipment on VWs pre 66 or so. I bought them as part of a package deal and they have been in the barn for at least 20 yrs. they still have the paper tape that tires of that time period came rapped in. After thinking about what you need maybe there not what your looking for, Sorry, but if you want them let me know, later Kenn

Thanks everyone for looking, I appreciate it. Ruffuss your probably right it doesn't sound like bias ply's will work for me. If anyone else has anything that'll work let me know, I can't find them anywhere. I know a guy that owns a local tire shop and made a call to him, he said they sell out of that size quickly so there always on order. He said that when he gets another shipment in he'll set a couple aside for me, but that could take months.
thanks jerry

I have the 2 in the garage as I mentioned earlier. They are Kelly Sonar 165R15 They have plenty of tread left just a tiny bit worn on the edge from camber.
