So anyway this is what Allys engine is going into. And of course it needs brakes and lines front to rear, and lord knows what else. Ill update as I get info/pics. The goal is to get it functional by spring and then work on the metal next winter. As stated this is not my vehicle but who knows what the future will bring....

Dan, What kind of neibourhood do you live in? one of your neighbors has a porcshe and another one has an early bus. After this one you may find a karmann ghia.

Dont think much of anything is original. Its an old hippie bus that looks like it was kinda just kept going.
Id love to know some of the stories of where its been! Im sure as I go through it Ill learn some stuff by what I find.

When I get to the brakes I may have questions. Till then (not for a while) Ive got the motor part down. Middle of oct, engine swap, then brakes little at a time.

Coulda had the engine out last night but Im not in that much of a rush as I dont have a motor to put in till after the 18th... SO Ill pull it soon. It is only 4 bolts away from being out. I have not and really do not intend on really diaging the old motor. It actually all looks there and looks as though it was well taken car of. Frankly Im just not a big 40hp fan. Not enough bearing or oil passages for me. Plus the whole single port thing is not my cup o tea. I do agree in stock form (which this is) they are good little motors. So in goes the 1645... soon.

Drained around five gallons of stale fuel out of the bus, it came out clean which bodes well. Im glad there was gas in there during storage or who knows what the tank might have looked like. I redressed Allys old 1641 to Amish standards. It looks so.... plain . Anyway I had to use lots of tin and a carb from my old buggy motor. Glad I keep old vw parts! Most of the old single port tin/carb would not fit. Anyway its ready to install but I want to wait for the new swing axle boots to arrive. It will be easier to install that way. Then goes in the new battery I got and then the engine goes in. Easy Peasy. Then we see if we need to rebuild the carb (cleaned the hell out of it earlier). Next brakes. Dan cheesy air filter came with bus so lay off. Its not my veh and they are on a budget Allys motor looks so boring now. I hope it likes its new home. It was a great engine for me. before depimping de auto...
