Hello All you VW lovers! My affair began in the 50's when I went to look for a job at Coleman Mtrs in Augusta, Ga(I was 16 then) for the parts dept. They had decided not to hire there but wanted a mechanic-so I was hired and trained. First impression-uuug-what an ugly car! However the VW is an insidious little bugger for as I worked on and road tested her, she hooked me forever. I went home the next day and tried to get my folks to buy one-they decided not to. Life went on, I went to college and on to the military. I finally wound up working for Thrifty VW in Grand Rapids, Mi. as a mechanic then as a Service Adviser and from there to Willard Motors in Holland,Mi. as Service Manager where I was fired for road testing every VW that was worked on, which the mechanics took as a threat to them, it wasn't, I just ran into some sloppy mechanics in GR and I wasn't getting my butt chewed out cause someone was drunk or lazy, or forgetful a lot. From there to Prestige Porsche/Audi, (Div and 28th St) as in the 70's Porsche and Audi (Auto Union) joined and came back to America as Porsche was leaving due to low sales. The Audi was a super car til they put the American carb on it and what a mess. Went to Borgman Ford from there and then got an offer to be Service Mgr of President Porsche/Audi in Vestal (Binghamton, NY), NY. There three years, economy went belly up in the 73's and came back to Holland and here we are. Have a 66 bug and a 74 Bus working on. Drull, drull, drull, drull! as in drooling when one eats.
