So I'm looking for a winter beater to get me around while my VW is hibernating, something under a thousand that still has it's floor pans intact, when I come upon an almost exact copy of my first car. My girlfriend and I were scouring yard sales for nightstands and decided to hit one more before we called it a day. There in the front of the driveway, for $695 was a red 1987 Nissan Sentra. It would be exactly like the car I bought when I was fifteen, except this one has a manual trans and is a two door instead of four. The clutch is good, engine is sound, needs some carb work, and the greatest thing, it has next to no rust on the undercarriage with a little on the body. The guy said it was his daughter's ex-boyfriend's car and he just left it there after driving it from Oregon. I test drove a couple of other cars that day, but I was too enamored with this one. Yeah those had there nice posh interiors and smooth handling, but lurking underneath was a whole lot of Michigan winter damage. I felt as though something was going to fall through at any moment. Having owned two late 80's Nissan Sentras, I know that the only thing that's going to stop it is RUST! Sound familiar? So I bought it for $600, took it home, and did what anyone who has a passion for old autos does. I started taking it apart. I completely stripped the inside and cleaned everything. Being people who appreciate a bit of nostalgia and great automobiles, I figured you would understand why I just had to buy it. I should have it back together by the weekend. I'll post a couple of pics then. Bryan

Why would anyone think you were crazy? 80's/90's imports are IMO the best beaters to get. I just picked up a 94 Accord as my commuter car. 175K miles and it runs like a champ and get 32+ MPG. Lets see some Pics!

If I could find my first car or one like it I would purchase it in a heart beat if the price was right. Good luck it was a 1978 VW Rabbit Diesel.

In 1976, I moved to US from Japan, and my first car was a 63 2dr. Dodge Dart, slant 6 with push button automatic. My wife and I enjoyed this car. About 20 years ago, I had a chance to buy a 64 Dart convertible with slant 6, push button automatic, red interior and red exterior(needed restoration) and I kept it in my garage for 17years. 3 years ago, finally I could afford to do a show car level restoration and I sent it to the body shop. Enjoy your car. If you maintain the car well, some day soon it will become a valuable.
Currently I'm enjoying driving my 70 Ghia. Aki
