That is just like the package deals that I see near Christmas time at Walmart. With the buy it now price plus shipping you really would not be saving much.
The question is how much sound do you want and quality also what vehicle are you installing this into. The set includes (2) 6x9 and (2) 6-1/2 If this is to be installed in a air cooled Volkswagen you would need to do some modification for the install.
I hung around a car audio shop back in the day and did a lot of custom stereo installations. Plus I was sponsored back in the day by the same shop. I once owned a tricked out GTI with a custom stereo with hidden LCD TV, DVD Player Surround Sound System and (2) Competition 10" Woofers. If you would like to see my custom 8 speaker stereo system in my Ghia you should come by sometime.
Let me know what you decide AJ

This is for my blue project car. I am looking for a decent system but nothing crazy. In my beige car I did a underdash install for the head unit with a steering wheel remote. 6.5" speakers in fiberglass kick panels in the front. In the back I have a sub with a amp under the rear seat. I custom built a shelf over the sub cabinet to hold 6x9's and tweeters. Everything is Blaupunkt. I am very happy with that system. In the blue car I am looking to go a little simpler and cheaper. Probably no sub or amp this time. I thought about maybe just doing 2 pairs of 6.5" speakers. One pair in kick panels and one pair in the rear side panels. Any recommendations for a basic set up like that?

Bren, Get a hold of Steve he has a complete package with everything you need to make a thumpy, he took it in trade and it's brand new never even been opened and suppose to be a kick butt system, if like that sort of thing.

My only suggestion is do not mount the speakers on the rear side panel. Rather mount the speaker to the sheet metal of the beetle and add a sheet metal support structure. Than attach the speaker grill to the panel. This is how I set up my Ghia. The reason for this is that the speaker weight if only supported by the cardboard side panel will destroy the panel after time.

AJ: After I wrote that I went and looked at the rear side panel cavity. Not deep enough for speakers. I will probably build a rear parcel shelf again.
Kenn: I will call Steve tonight. Maybe we can work out some sort of trade for the beam plus cash or something. -Bren

Steven: Looks like good stuff but that is way out of my price range. I was hoping to stay closer to $100! -Bren

Well, I kept digging on Ebay. Got a few good deals. Kept the total price under $100. Blaupunkt 6x9's, Panasonic head unit, and kicker 6.5's. I will make my own kick panels this time and another rear shelf. Right now there will not be a sub or anything else. Trying to keep it simple.
I look forward to seeing and hearing yours AJ.

My ghia is a little over kill. I can't really dial in the system right now because the interior is not quite finished. I still need to install the side windows and door panels.
I am running 2 amps a 4 channel and a 2 channel sorry I can't remember the wattage. The 4 channel amp is powering my (2) 6.5 and my (2) 6X9. The 2 channel is powering the (2) 10" subs in a custom enclosure. The (2) tweeters are mounted in the dash board and they are powered from my head unit. My head unit is a JVC and everything else is Hypnotic.
When I had the system designed I did not want a ghetto boomer. I wanted pure clear and crisp sound I wanted a clear sound at a low volume. I want to drive down the freeway with the windows up and hear nothing but the music. I think I messed up on my exhaust muffler because it is a little to loud for me. I am hopping that after all of my windows are installed my interior will be quiet.

Did you do any sound dampening? What did you use? I am looking at a liquid sound dampner that you brush on. Not sure how well it will work. In my beige car I used dynamat. Made a big difference. This time around I don't want to spend the money on dynamat.

Well I don't know if I want to let out my secret because people my think its cheep but I love it. I am using 1/2" thick regular carpet padding from Menard's. I buy the good stuff at around $0.50 a square foot. I lay it down before the carpet it produces a soft feeling carpet and helps with the insulation of sound and heat. My Ghia is covered with the stuff above the head liner, all of the flooring, and 2 layers next to the fire wall before the Sub Box. I plan on coating my doors and the rear quarter panels too.
I first used this stuff when I did my GTI. I removed the rear seat and made a cabinet where the seat use to be. I laid down a piece of 1/2" plywood down the whole length of the trunk and over the opening of the rear seat. Then the 1/2" carpet pad and the carpet on top. My wife and I would lay down in the back of the GTI and watch the stars.
The stuff that I use has a cloth like one side and a constant piece of foam. I just use a ton of 3M spray glue to attach it to what ever I need to. I usually glue the fabric side down to the car body.
Like I said before if you want to check out my car stop by or just wait until the next GTG.

Let me know how the liquid sound dampener turns out. When I install my urethane bushing kit for the rear I plan on coating the whole under carriage with Truck bed liner. I don't really think it will dampen any sound but it will give lasting protection.
