A few months back I noticed a few months back my car had really started leaking oil so I checked it out and it turned out to be a tore axle boot. Not knowing any better I ordered up a set of the cheap colored rubber boots. Well they looked nice in the package, but once I installed them they leaked. So instead of being smart about it I figured I would try to patch them just to get through the summer, and replace them with the good German ones this winter. Well I climbed under there today to make sure everything was looking good for this weekend and sure enough one is leaking like crazy, I mean bad I loosened the clamps and spun it and that only made it worse. Does anyone know of anywhere I can get one by friday? I'm going to call cip1 right now and see how quickly they can ship me a set.

When I need something soon I go to R&N Sport Buggy in Portage. I don't know where you are from. I would call him first before you drive over there to make sure he has the parts and is open.

You probably wont get them from CIP in time. They are slow with shipping. I know George in Battle Creek only has the colored ones which I used on my friends buggy and its been fine.

I still have the colored ones. It seemed like on the ends where the clamps sit there wasn't a good seal, there was a bit of a gap. Cip said they could have them here by thursday but the shipping was going to set me back 50 bucks. I can't see spending $50 on a $10 part. Dustin if you had good luck with them maybe I'll just give them another shot.

I wouldnt exactly call it good luck, They went on really hard since they were warped from the package but they dont seem to leak. I would order the good ones from CIP but just try to get by with the colored ones for this weekend.

Jerry: Another local source for parts is Randy Townsend in Perry, MI. He ships parts out or you can pick them up. Maybe if you called tonight you could have them in time to install Saturday morning before heading to Battle Creek. Don't know how late he answers the phone though.

I think I'm just going to give the cheap boots another shot, hopefully it'll pan out. I'm sure I can get them to work well enough to get me through the weekend. I'll just have to carry an extra quart of gear oil with me.

Jerry,
I would go German on the new boots otherwise you will most likely end up with the same quality as the colored boots. Might check out wolfsburg west as well for them. They actually have pretty good prices, fast shipping, and quality parts. CIP1 is good and I have ordered alot from them but their shipping is awefully slow.

I have a new set on my buggy and I'm not using the buggy right now . Matter of fact the buggy has never been down the road that's how new they are . OR like I have said in the past one of the Good Old Boys around the corner owned a VW shop for 40 years hear in South Haven and may just have a pair sitting on the shelf . Let me know by 4 P.M. or give me a call 1-269-277-3357 and I go over and ask .

I ended up stopping by a german auto shop this afternoon, I didn't think I would have much luck because they mainly work on newer vehicles. Luckily they were able to order me a set and have them here by tomorrow afternoon. Thanks for everyones help it really shows how tight the vw community really is.

Thats great Jerry,
Was it a small shop called German Auto? I know a guy who works there he is part of the club MIVE thats mostly a waterpumper club I am a part of. I bet they ordered them from S&G Autoparts if so they should be a good quality.

Dustin, yes it was a little shop right off the highway. The boots seemed to be decent, not the german ones but they'll work. They went on smoothly, but a messy job as always. Does any one know how much oil a swing axle should hold?
again thanks for everyones help jerry

The tranny should hold upon refill about 2.5 liters or 5.3pints which is about 2.6 quarts just until it starts to spill out of the fill hole.
