Well, I finally decided it was time to make the move back to an ACVW daily driver! Some of you may have seen this car on TS last week. It is a '71 Super, that we named "The Super Turtle"! It has a 1641 single port with 30 pict carb and 009, I know, I know, I didn't build it,but, it runs good and is pretty peppy. There are a couple of pieces of tin that need attention before I put her on the road full time. It has a speedo out of a '68?, I haven't looked at the date. It has a roof rack and marathon wheels. It also has plenty of rust, a growling tranny, and a few other "quirks", but it runs, stops, and turns decent. Someone installed new pans a while back, over the old rusty ones! It was also repainted not too long ago, it looks decent from 10 or 50 feet. I bought it Wednesday in Lima, Ohio, and it made the 5 hour drive home without a hiccup! Today I got the e-brake working, installed the glovebox the right way (it was held in with wire, and, upside down!), rigged the gas door so I can open it from the inside again. I adjusted the non-correct decklid, and did some general cleaning. Tomorrow, deeper cleaning and some more general repair.

I like it. Nice and looks clean. John in Plainwell Thanks! Yeah, it looks clean! It's really rough though, the rockers are swiss cheese, the drivers door sags, nothing on it is correct! I was surprised when it made the trip back from Ohio. I picked it up Wednesday, during the storm! On the trip home: The display on the radio kept flashing on and off, and eventually went blank due to water leaking in through the hood vents My feet were getting wet! The transmission was growling I think the rear trans mounts are shot, either that or the bowden tube is goofed or missing, it shutters a bit when taking off. Main seal leaks, may contribute to shuttering (oil on disc) The running boards are connected to the fenders with zip strips, you know, wire ties, yeah! I was thinking "what did I get myself into?" the entire drive home, but once here felt that I got a good deal. We made it without a problem, other than the weather. I am going to try to get it up to a safer "driver" status tonight and the rest of the weekend and hopefully start driving it daily by Monday! Oh, and I spelled it wrong it the first post, it's "The Super Turdle"

Excellent! Looking at the hood hinge brackets...is that Marathon Blue Metallic? Is it a Baja SE? Maybe the wheels came on it? But you said '71....... Definitely a '71, but it is pieced together, supposedly it had a small engine fire and sat for a few years before being pieced back together and driven. The guy I got it from said he found a '57 that he needed money for, so...I ended up with a car. He did say that he put the wheels on it. I haven't figured out what the original color is yet, it has so many different shades on so many different spots! I'll try to count tomorrow This is why I've been too busy to stop over Rudy! What'd you call me? Cori and I have been discussing artwork, for when she has time. Gonna haftagitta GV's sticker too!

Good score, the color reminds me of the German 'Polizi' cars ;D ;D back in the mid 70's ,White lettering on both sides and a little blue bubble on top (loose the rack) and you'll be good to go ;D ;D ;D

I seen that car for sale a while back and thought for the price it would make a real nice daily driver. I like the color and roof rack too, it has an urban assualt vehicle look to it. I'm also envious of anyone that daily's an acvw.

Thanks all! It should be a decent car, for what I picked it up for. It is rough, don't let it fool you, but, looks decent. It's going to be interesting, I haven't DD an air cooler in about 10-11 years! I had my '72 Super, but ended up having to drive from Lansing to Ionia daily, that lasted about a year before I bought the S-10. Now my drive is about 20 miles round trip, rather than 100. Dad in law already bet me $50 I won't make it through the winter, he thinks I'll get too cold! This is gonna be an easy $50, I used to roll the windows down on my '72 cuz the heat exchangers were locked open and it'd get too hot inside!
