Hi folks; Recently bought my 3rd Ghia -- joined the site a month-or-so ago but just now getting around to introducing myself.
Like I said, I'm now on my 3rd Ghia - all coupes.
The 1st was a 1960 'back lot special' purchased for $200 in 1966. It lasted from summer until the Wednesday before Thanksgiving when I got T-boned by an old gentleman in a rather LARGE '59 Ford.
A couple of months later, 25 Jan '67, I bought a NEW '66. That was the day of the big SNOWSTORM here in Battle Creek and my Dad, who wanted to hold-off picking it up, said (while pointing that finger) "...and I'm going to drive it home 'cause I don't want you to wreck it!!" Well.... you can all guess what happened.
That Ghia was the 8-passenger version - I (and 7 of my 'hoodlum friends') proved that the 'Last Day for Seniors' in June of '68.
Sold circa 1970, I was Ghialess until earlier this spring (2009) when I went 50-50 w/ my own teenage son on this '74. It's basically his car through the remainder of HS and while working this summer (Springfield Do It Best hdwe) but I will buy out his 1/2 when he leaves for U-M in August.
It appears that somewhere between the '66 and '74 model years they lengthened the steering column in these things.....
I'm in Battle Creek, just down the road from George (if you're from the Battle Creek area and own a VW, you know who George is).
