My name is Johnathan, I am a transplant to Howell. you could call me "De-Ranged" as I am from the Iron Range region of northern Minnesota. I grew up In Mt. Iron, Mn went to college in Avondale AZ, there I picket up my 74 super for 800 bucks. I purchased it becasue I needed to learn how to drive a stick, and wanted a cheep project car. It ran, but did not have 1st gear and burned a quart of oil every other day of driving. (running 20W50) I replaced the transmission and clutch, but did not set up the crank shaft end play correctly. Finally the engine had enough. I ordered a C.B. performance 2276 engine kit and built the engine myself, with some tuning and set up help from Dougs bugs and bunnies. After getting the engine runing, i moved home again for a new job at a Ford Dealership. After getting home, I started my bug up and went for a drive, I blew my oil filter apart while driving. After 200 miles the engine was toast. Sadly i dont think the oil filter was the only problem I had. anyhow since that incident the car has been sitting. I just haven't had the heart to go through the engine and rebuild it. So now I live here in Howell for a new better job, A/C VWless.
Before i bough the car in Az.
Picture of the car after tinted the windows blue. Being that it was az I didnt drive the car with windows up, but still was odd to drive.
engine as i bough it
tearing down the engine that was in car
Building the 2276 in my apartment living room
Installing engine
All together, boy she was purdy! Yes it hauled ass compared to the stock engine, scary fast!
blew clean off
I would love to get my super back on the road, in due time I guess. when I was moving to Mi, I noticed the sand dunes. I though there may be some sand rails out here like in az, and I did see a rail shop in my meandering. I loved the a/c vw guys in Az hope this crowd is just as good.
