Hi guys, I just got new valve covers for my rail. The old stock ones were very warped and leaking badly. I have a bug pac vent system and the old valve covers had the vents installed in them. My question is, do I just drill a hole in the new(cast aluminum) covers and put the vents in? Anything I should watch out for?

That's correct...just drill new holes, and install the vent tubes.
You will want to make certain that the rubber washers are in good shape BEFORE you drill the holes.
Not much to it. Personally, I had had same things in my old valve covers, but instead of drilling, I bough stock Gene Berg valve covers with brazed on vents...

Awesome thanks! Im assuming the seals are just o rings? If I need new ones I can just get some from the parts store that are the same size?

Ohhhh boy. I have more questions. Instead of starting a new thread ill put em here. I did a compression test 120-125 on all cylinders. Good or bad? Also, at least one of my head bolts are very loose. Can I just re torque them? If so what spec? Ill have to remove the rockers to to that. Easy as just pulling them off? One more, when I pulled the valve covers the oil was milky....what gives?

120-125 is ok. yes you can re-torque, just make sure nothing is stripped. 8 or 10 mm head studs? I believe the spec for 8mm is 24 lb/ft. Yes, unbolt rockers, re-torque to 18 lb/ft. Do you have an external oil cooler? Milky oil is a sign of water in the oil, usually due to condensation. If the oil doesn't reach a good operating temperature (about 220*) for an extended period, the water will not evaporate out of the oil. Are we still on for this weekend, Saturday morning work?

They look like 10mm to me. It has a stock oil cooler on the front of the engine. Should I loosed the valve adjusters before I pull the rockers off? What time sat morning?

I was wrong, 8mm is 18 lb/ft,and 10mm is 23 lb/ft. I like to loosen the adjusters before removing, prevents damage to the studs. I can swing over anytime after 9 am Saturday

I have been trying to decode the numbers on my block and heads. Seems one of the heads is a fuel injection head? Is that a problem?

The mis-matched heads could be a problem, F.I. Heads can have smaller intake valves than non-F.I. I'll be there Saturday.

Thats what I thought I read as well. Hmmmmm. Not cool. Ill see you Saturday. I *think I was wrong about the head. I think its a Mexican standard 1600 dp. But all the carts I find dont have that number on it! Another question, should I take all the head bolts loose and then torque them all down again or just torque them as they are?

Well.....looks like im rather screwed. Head bolts were loose because two studs pulled out of the block. Now what?

There are "self tapping" repair studs, but, I consider them a band-aid at best. Sounds like a teardown is in the future, you could then install case savers. I'll look at it with you tomorrow.
