Their just plain fun!! drifting threw backwoods corners Is that hard on the gearbox? I have a stock AH transmission and was worried about prematurely tearing it up.

Not really ,makes the spider gears work a little more, what;s hard is: Big heavy A$$ wheel&tires, side steppin the clutch, not pre-loading on fast starts, hole shots in Reverse or getting stuck,to heavy of a pressure plate, ect

How big is big? I was looking at tires around 28-29 inches in diameter. I figured they were a good compromise between the stock transmissions gearing and off roading.

Nothing special. Whatever I can pick up cheap. 1500sp or 1600sp/dp. After a few years of driving I may do a mild build up...1776 or something like that.

Alright, so I have some surprise news that may disappoint those of you advocating for rear disks...but...I came across some Sebro 307168 drums...yup, thats right, a pair of VW OE 181501615A Thing drums. Since I already had all the other rear brake parts on hand, I took them while I could. Larger 22mm wheel cylinders should provide good braking.
Has anybody experimented with smaller 17mm wheel cylinders for front brakes?
